Sandra Hickey is an Irish artist based in Cork. She began her studies in the Limerick School of Art and Design, where she studied Fine Art, specialising in Painting, graduating in 2010. There she received a BA honours degree. She has obtained a Masters in Fine Art- Painting from the National College of Art and Design in 2013.

 

Her Paintings have been exhibited in Limerick, Dublin, Cork, Kilkenny, Enschede - The Netherlands, London, Gdansk - Poland and the U.S. Her first solo show titled ‘Organisms’ was hosted at the Watergate Upstairs Galley in Kilkenny in 2014. Her second Solo exhibition titled 'Where Two Styles Meet- Loving Vincent Inspired' was held in The Triskel Art Centre, Cork in January 2019. This was followed by her third solo exhibition in St Peters, Cork in December 2019.

She was the only artist from the Republic of Ireland to join the 125 multinational Painting Animation team for the Oscar nominated production Loving Vincent which was the first in cinematic history to ever be completely hand painted. She was chosen out of over 5,000 applicants to work on the production.

Before working on Loving Vincent her own work was both figurative and abstract. ‘I find people to be a very interesting subject matter to paint, wither it is a portrait or the figurative form as the main focus, it has always been intriguing for me to capture it. But since my experience working on Loving Vincent and painting in the style of Vincent Van Gogh so much during a very intense period of time, I have been seeing Vincent Van Gogh style painting in many landscapes I encounter since. And my response to that was to paint it.’
